The year is 1885, and necrophiliac Dr. Hitchcock likes to drug his wife for sexual funeral games. One day he accidentally administers an overdose and kills her. He leaves his home shattered. Several years later he remarries and returns. Discovering that his still beloved first wife is alive but insane and prematurely aged, he plans to use the blood of his new bride to rejuvenate and heal her. This one’s sort of rare and is generally agreed to be one of Barbara Steele’s best films. I apologise for this being another tape-to-flash conversion. The tape turned up at a car-boot sale years ago, and it was a long time before I gave it a second viewing and realized just how good it was – it’s quite slow but I now find it quite compelling. Clive Barker raves about this film in his A to Z of Horror.
