Angry Video Game Nerd (Episode 67)
Metal Gear

Metal Gear is one of the most recognized and popular gaming franchises made. Produced and designed by Hideo Kojima, the man behind games such as Snacher and Zone of the Enders, he created what people call a cinematic gaming experience.

With a franchise that is most famous for it’s over the top but confusing plotlines, one could wonder where it all started. Hideo Kojima actually created the first Metal Gear game in 1987. It was released exclusively in Japan on a home computer called the MSX.

Metal Gear was the games that progenitor the stealth game genre. It was one of the first games that featured the fact that you actually had to avoid enemies. This was something that was rare back in the day.

The game became so popular that it was ported to the Famicom. And from there, it was released on the NES in 1988. This was the first version of Metal Gear that was released in the rest of the world. But what was unknown to us then was that Hideo Kojima had absolutely no involvement in the creation of this port and localization.

What difference did this make for this version of the game? Let’s see the nerd’s reaction to this confusing mess, all in his review of Metal Gear. Will he feel asleep?
